Bluetooth connection problems with Motorola Q

Postby Greymane » Wed Dec 06, 2006 5:12 am

We have discovered a problem getting software on the Motorola Q to connect to a Bluetooth GPS. The problem seems to stem from the fact that when you put in the GPS setup info, the Q sends you to the Bluetooth Browser to select the device. This step has locked up every program I have tried. A work around is shown below:

The Hack (Do at your own risk!)

Open up your preferred registry editor and go to:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BtConfig\Autoconnect\0001

and change or create:

BtBrowserEnabled=0 (DWORD)

Note: You won't have this key if you have never attempted to connect to the GPS receiver. If you have the key, the value will be set to 1 originally.

Problem fixed!!

A new update is out for the Motorola Q which fixes the Bluetooth serial port issue. The phone now works with BT GPS units without a hack.
