Updating Maps

Postby aha » Sun Jan 31, 2010 12:12 pm

I've just taken delivery of my first Memory Map package direct from Memory Map NZ, and am coming to grips with things.
I was a little surprised that the maps are not in the lastest two file format and so I have been patiently trying to update to the latest format so I can use the large files in my Windows mobile device.
With other suppliers I can just get an update file in the usual download procedure. It takes a few hours because of the large file size, but I can just start it off and walk away. When I come back later it is all done.
The only way to update the map that I've been able to find in Memory Map is to use the digital map shop (DMS). I have updated to the latest software version, but it still requires me to move the map view every 20 minutes or so to a new part of the map so it will update that part. I have a fast cable internet connection, but everything is so slow. Everything stops until I move it to another part of the map, even in auto mode. I can't zoom out far enough to get a useful amount of the map to update.
Surely I must be missing somthing here. At this rate it will take me the whole weekend moving the map around just to update one map file. There are still others to do. Is there a better way to update map files?

That shouldn't have happened, sounds like there was a bit of old stock hanging around. If you flick a quick email to support@memory-map.com.au with some info on the product you purchased (title, serial number etc.) we'll get a current version sent out to you (remember to give your address)

To download large pieces of map you need to have a large area framed on screen. Use a base map and frame the whole state, then you will get the whole map. There may be more than one map for the state, split into zones perhaps, but this way you're sure to get all of it whatever it's size.

Yes it is slow - it's a lot of data to download and no way round that I'm afraid - not if you want all the detail.

Thanks Mungo 8)
I knew the download would be slow, but you've given me the solution to get the download working in one process instead of having to keep moving the screen view to download the map piece by piece.
I've emailed support as you suggested.
Cheers
