Connecting a Garmin Colorado, Oregon or Dakota

First make sure you have Memory-Map ver 5.4.2 or later installed.

The GPS should be set to: Setup > System > interface > Garmin Spanner (some units do not have an interface option in which case, disregard this step)

Plug the USB cable into the PC and Garmin and accept the "Mass Storage" option

In Memory-Map the GPS setup should be Manufacturer=Garmin, Model=USB

I have been running a Garmin Oregon with Memory_Map ver 5.4.2 and have had a lot of trouble getting consistent connections.

The Post is right about setting up the Garmin as a Mass storage device when wanting to transfer overlays between PC and GPS but I have found if you want to use the GPS as a navigator, such as with a laptop in a car, you must enter "No" when asked if you want to go to Mass Storage Device.
